In a word, no. When the insurance company has accepted responsibility for your accident and medical condition and is providing benefits, only they can authorize medical treatment. If you seek treatment on your own, you may be responsible for those bills. In addition, in most instances, non-authorized doctors’ opinions are not admissible in a workers’ compensation proceeding. Finally, if an unauthorized doctor makes your condition worse, the insurance company can use that against you.
There are situations where you can seek authorization of medical treatment when the insurance company is denying responsibility for your accident or your condition. If the insurance company is denying your medical condition or anything else associated with your claim, please contact us as soon as possible. We can help.
